The bus is rolling, which means it’s time for a punch or two on the broken fingers of the little ones.
“Smiley” Joe Wiley is on the mic, explaining how he tries to get a break from his kids from time to time by seeking refuge in the bathroom.
“They found you – they put their little hands under the door,” he begins. “‘When are you going out?’ I pinched the tips; take the piston, beat the tips, “he continued in a round of derision. “They have tips like a carpenter – you should see their hands.”
Lots Of Laughs: A Look Inside The Las Vegas Comedy Boom
A little later, he recalled a pastor who stuttered when he was a boy.
It’s a little past 8 p.m. on a Friday, and the “Best Comedy Show on Wheels” is just warming up.
Aboard a 15-passenger luxury bus, Wiley entertains a crowd of eight surrounded by his wife, who serves drinks, and longtime friend Steve Pearlman, who sings during the show.
It’s a loose, off-the-cuff, uniquely funny experience, a mix of music and comedy with no barriers between audience and performer during a 90-minute journey that begins at the southern end of the Strip, with a stop at “Welcome. to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign for photo.

Being this close to Wiley is like sitting at the kitchen table with a good friend on a Saturday night, sharing drinks, stories and laughs in equal measure.
And that’s kind of where it all started for Wiley and Pearlman, both from Cleveland, where they worked in the mortgage business together.
“I told him, ‘One day, man, we’re going to take the show to Vegas,'” Wiley remembers telling Pearlman. “One day, this will be a show in Vegas.’ He was like, ‘Oh man, give me a break.’ I said, ‘Steve, just look.'”
Wiley took it the way a houseplant does the sun, particularly impressed by the number of impersonations Murphy did, nearly a dozen in all, ranging from Elvis to Mr. T, all while rocking some of the most flamboyant outfits ever .
Mac King Comedy Magic Show
A dedicated class clown who got his nickname “Smiley” when he was 14, Wiley still remembers the first joke he wrote, about a man who was so bored in church, he left early.
“He’s driving down the road,” Wiley said. “And then, all of a sudden, he got into a car accident and his car flew off a cliff. And the first thing he said was, ‘Oh, God! Oh, God! Save me!’ And God said, ‘Well, if you had a– in the church. That wouldn’t happen now.’ And the class went crazy.”
Wiley would later run a comedy night in Cleveland and perform around town, before moving to Vegas in 2004, when he got a gig opening for hypnotist Justin Tranz at O’Shea’s. He would also perform comedy aboard Carnival cruise ships for years.
Then, in 2011, Wiley’s ex-wife, who had since passed away from cancer, had a 40-year high school reunion in Phoenix, where she, Wiley and an assortment of friends gathered on a party bus during the festivities.

“I looked around and said, ‘Man, this would be great if I just stood and entertained these idiots right now,'” Wiley recalled.
“I saw it in my head, ‘I could do a party bus at a comedy club,'” he remembers thinking. “‘I could do that.'”
“When I was young, you fell down, they laughed at you,” he begins. “You fell at that age, they closed the supermarket. They got the news to appear. It’s just a slide, all of us.”
He talks about the weather in his town – “It was so cold one winter, the snowman knocked on the door. Which one of you made me? Take that carrot” – and the dangers of trying to pass gas in the church.

Pearlman then lends strong, sonorous vocals to various old-school R&B from the likes of Johnny Gill and Levert.
Occasionally, Wiley’s words are as blue as the lighting that illuminates the bus, although he welcomes everything in the crowd, measures the level of spicy humor, and also makes shows child-friendly.
“People wanted to get out, but they couldn’t go anywhere,” he said. “I’m on a bus, I can put all four of you in this pocket, then I could put another pocket of people on the other side, and everyone is 6 feet apart. We are masked. That’s how I started it .”
Business has grown steadily ever since, and Wiley now regularly performs more than four nights a week.

He is a constant presence, although his comedy is often rooted in tragedy: In addition to the death of his wife, one of his sons was murdered in 2015.
“I had to bury him,” Wiley reflected. “So I tell people, ‘If I can go through this, and still bring a smile to my face, no matter what you guys are going through, it’s a brighter day, guys.’
“Every day, the sun doesn’t shine,” he continued. “It’s ‘Can you stop the rain?’ Once the storm hits, you have to prepare for it. We’re all going to die someday, so you take this life and you take it and you embrace it.”
“Laughter, happiness, man, that’s something that nobody can take away from you,” Wiley pointed out. “That’s how I feel about my comedy show on the bus: I want to give back what I gave them, and that was love.

I go to a lot of comedy shows in Las Vegas. From resident comics like Carrot Top to touring various comedy clubs, I go to as many as I can.
To create this list, I focused on the most important thing when I go to a comedy show: does it make the audience laugh? Some clubs book better talent than others.
Other factors I considered were ticket prices, drink prices, and location. Then I ordered the list accordingly to create my list of the 9 best comedy shows in Las Vegas.
