For decades, the biggest heroes on our big screens were Batman and Superman. But that all changed in 2008 when Robert Downey Jr donned his armor for the first time. Since then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (lovingly known as the MCU) has become the biggest movie franchise of all time. Spanning 32 films (at the time of writing) and more than a decade of production and production, Marvel films have grossed over 28 billion dollars worldwide.

With all the post-credits teasers, twists, and character development, the release order gives you an excellent introduction to each Marvel character and their place in the wider MCU.

Black Widow’s solo film is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War and before the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Shang Chi is not technically an avenger… yet. He meets Bruce Banner and Captain Marvel in a post-credit scene of his own film. But there is still no official confirmation of him joining the team, or if there will be another Avengers film in the MCU’s future. He, however, is likely to appear in other upcoming Marvel projects and get a sequel to his successful solo character.
