But if there’s one thing more annoying than drawing a blackjack dealer to 21, it’s getting hit with a resort fee you weren’t prepared for.

Marriott Hotels In Las Vegas

Here is a list of the best Las Vegas hotels without resort fees. We’ll also cover strategies for avoiding these fees if you want to stay in places that charge them, and situations when you should just give in and pay the fee.

So, what exactly is a resort fee? This is a charge that is added to your hotel bill, usually on a per night basis, on top of the regular room rate and tax. Based on an analysis, expect to pay an average of $40 per night for resort fees at a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. Additionally, you will be charged tax on the fee.

While “resort fee” is the most common name, you may see these charges cloaked in names like “destination charge,” “security charge,” “service charge,” “experience fee” or another fishy name. .

What amazing perks do you get for $40 per night? MGM resorts include Wi-Fi, fitness center access, boarding pass printing and unlimited local and toll-free telephone calls. You’ll find similar amenities included in the resort fee at other hotels — big and small, on-strip and off-strip.

In 2023, Wi-Fi should be standard in Vegas hotels, and a fitness center barely costs $40 per day. Boarding passes are often mobile these days (or can be printed for free at the airport).

And who is making so many phone calls from their hotel room telephone that they still think it’s a test?

Fact: Hotel fees are a trick to publish lower prices on hotel booking sites. They tack on these fees later to jack up the price.

For example, you can book a night at the Excalibur, part of MGM’s MGM Rewards loyalty program, for just $31 per night. That’s a great deal, even for a low-end hotel located right on the Strip. But wait. The resort fee is $39.68 per night, which doubles your nightly cost.

These fees aren’t limited to low-end hotels, either. You can spend about $200 per night to stay at the Cosmopolitan, but you’ll need to shell out another $51 a night in resort fees — about a 25 percent price increase.

Your options are limited if you want to be close to the strip and not pay resort fees. The two largest hotel groups, MMM and Caesars, both charge resort fees up and down the strip.

If being on the Strip must be on your no-resort-fee hotel wish list, check out Casino Royale, a member of the Best Western Rewards Program. Let’s be clear about something: you’re getting a hotel room and a great location – but not much else.

The hotel is across from the Mirage and adjacent to Harrah’s Las Vegas. You’ll find a small casino on site and some basic food options (for example, Subway, Pizza Hut and White Castle), but the main draw here is the location – the hotel is right in the middle of the strip, conveniently. Access to shows, casinos, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

Best Places To Stay In Las Vegas

If you are looking for something that has the status of a good or high end hotel, this is not the place for you. Instead, consider the next option on our list: Marriott’s Grand Chateau.

Best Western does not have a fixed award chart and prices for award nights may vary. When searching for nights in the summer and fall, we found them as low as 16,000 points for weeknights and as high as 28,000 points on weekends. Cash prices will fluctuate in similar ways. We found rooms as cheap as $80 per night, to around $300 per night.

Book early if you want to stay here. Availability in the fall was already very low during our search in mid-summer.

If you want to stay at a nice hotel near the Strip and avoid resort fees, you really only have one choice: Marriott’s Grand Chateau.

Riviera Hotel Las Vegas

Technically, the Grand Chateau is not on the Strip, but it is only 0.2 miles away. The hotel is just a crosswalk over Harmon Avenue to both Miracle Mile Shops and Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. This easy access to food, shows, gambling and shopping makes it a prime almost-strip destination.

At the Grand Chateau, you won’t find a casino or a slot machine, which makes it feel more like a Marriott-Robert than a Las Vegas-casino feel. The hotel is part of the Marriott Vacation Club, but is open to anyone booking – member or not. Here, you’ll find not only standard hotel guestrooms, but also two- and three-bedroom villas that come with kitchens and living areas.

Other amenities include free Wi-Fi, two pools, a fitness center and several dining options. And most importantly, no resort fees are included in your reservation charge.

Standard rooms can usually be booked for between $200 and $300 per night. This hotel is part of the Marriott Bonvoy program and award nights range from 40,000 points to 53,00 points per night.

The location is hard to beat: It’s across the strip from the Aria Hotel, with Plant Hollywood just across Harmon Avenue.

We have rates as low as $67, and almost always under $100, per night through the summer and fall. You can earn up to 15,000 Wyndham Rewards Points for one night on Go Free Stays if you really want to keep prices low.

There are two fitness centers, a nice pool and an activity center. Like the Grand Chateau and Desert Rose Resort (below), you won’t find a casino here. But if you want to go to the Strip, they have you covered with a free shuttle service.

Cash prices in the summer hover around $150. If you’re looking to spend your Wyndham points, you’ll get 15,000 points per night worth of one free award.

Part of Shell Hospitality, Desert Rose Resort is another condo-style, resort-fee-free Las Vegas hotel option just 1 1/2 blocks off the Strip behind the Tropicana.

In terms of amenities, it offers a very similar experience to Wyndham Vacation Club Grand Desert: condo-style suites with multiple bedrooms, a kitchen, living space, a nice pool, fitness center, free Wi-Fi and more. There’s no casino, but it’s next door to the OYO Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, so you can easily get your gambling fix there.

Resorts World Las Vegas

Shell Hospitality does not have a loyalty program, and cash rates for a bedroom can vary widely. Midweek, you can often find prices between $120-$160, but weekends can easily double that amount.

If you’re okay with a run-of-the-mill hotel off the Strip like the Fairfield Inn or the Embassy Suites, you’ll have no problem finding them without resort fees. Just expect it to feel like a hotel from another city as opposed to one with a Las Vegas vibe.

If you have elite status with the right hotel program or if you make award bookings at the right hotels, you can get your lodging fee waived.

Factor in the opportunity cost of staying at a no-resort-fee hotel as well. The location may not be as good, and you may miss out on the full Las Vegas casino experience and amenities at your residence.

Your best bet is to compare hotel stores and keep an eye out for resort fees, which are usually displayed before you enter credit card information at the end of the booking. There is no shame in paying the resort fee as long as you factor it into your budget
