Carmel Indiana Performing Arts Center – An unprecedented cultural attraction for the region, this world-class 1,600-seat concert hall features modern acoustics and Italian Renaissance-style architecture.

The Palladium’s design is based on the traditional ‘shoebox’ shaped concert hall with high ceilings and massive sound-reflecting walls. This cornerstone of Downtown Carmel is designed to accommodate a multitude of musical genres.

The performance hall is designed as a multi-purpose space, but its main use is for live symphonic music. Through the design process it was decided that a truly multi-purpose room would not meet the highest standards for music production, however a room built for symphonic music could support many other types of events. In true concert hall fashion, the hall was developed as a single room, meaning there is no separation between the audience and the performers. This allows the initial sound to radiate freely without the constriction of a proscenium wall.

Inside the hall, the acoustics are further refined with the use of variable acoustic devices, including automated curtains and a special glass and steel acoustic canopy. The facility also includes state-of-the-art lighting and sound production systems with the ability to handle almost any production.

The space is designed to accommodate all patrons with excellent sight lines. The seating mix includes distinct locations including main floor, coral balcony, balcony and box seating with private anterooms.

CSO was commissioned by the City of Carmel and the Carmel Redevelopment Commission to serve as the Architect of Record on The Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts. After years of planning, The Palladium, one of three shows that comprise the Center for the Performing Arts, opened on January 29, 2011 and today serves as a showcase for internationally renowned artists. Located at 1 Cter Gre, adjacent to Carmel City Cter. The four-fronted, symmetrical design of the Palladium, clustered around the domed royal space of the one-room concert hall, was inspired by Andrea Palladio’s Villa Capra, La Rotonda (1566).

There are two other shows involving Cter – the 500-seat Tarkington Theatre, which is a proscium theater reminiscent of a Broadway theater where most of Cter’s musicals are performed, and the Studio Theatre, a small “black box” with flexible seating configurations. .

In 2012, Tania Castroverde Moskalko was hired to lead the organization. She was previously the CEO at Germantown Performing Arts Cter in Germantown, TN.

Under her leadership, Cter continued to expand the programming offered in its three areas and achieved increased funding from individual and corporate sources.

In August 2016 Moskalko resigned from her position and Board Chairman Jeffrey C. McDermott (Partner, Krieg DeVault Law Firm) assumed the role of Interim President and CEO. In August 2017, McDermott was officially elected by Cter’s Board as the new full-time President/CEO. McDermott will also remain Senior Advisor to Krieg DeVault. The Center for the Performing Arts Campus in Carmel Town Center consists of three venues: an elegant 1,600-seat concert hall, the Palladium; a 500-seat proscenium theatre, Tarkington; and a flexible black box space, the Studio Theatre. Performance series, featuring the best in classical, jazz, pop, rock, country, comedy and other genres. The nonprofit Center’s mission is to engage and inspire the Central Indiana community through enriching arts experiences.

The Center is the affiliated home of the Great American Songbook Foundation and provides space and support services for six resident companies: Actors Theater of Indiana, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Dance Ensemble of Central Indiana, Civic Theatre, Gregory Hancock Dance Theater and Indiana Wind Symphony.
