Distance From Palm Springs To Death Valley – Death Valley has been on my bucket list for a long time, so I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to travel from LA to Death Valley thanks to my friends at Visit California. You can use their road trip planner to plan your epic road trip, whether it’s to Death Valley like mine or other awesome places like the North Coast, Palm Springs, or Yosemite, to name a few! My itinerary is based on the Discovering Death Valley itinerary and expanded, so check out my itinerary below for the ultimate Death Valley itinerary starting from Los Angeles.

For the first day, start from LA (we flew into LAX and drove directly from there after picking up our rental car) and take State Route 14 to Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park near Agua Dulce . It’s a 52-mile drive from LAX, and takes about an hour to 1.5 hours depending on LA traffic. The 932-acre park is best known for its amazing rock formations that have been the backdrop for Hollywood movies and TV shows over the years, such as Blazing Saddles, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Star Trek! When you finish at Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, drive 30 minutes (27 miles) to Lancaster for the night.

For an early start to the day, take a short drive from Lancaster to Saddleback Butte, a hidden gem filled with Joshua Trees and beautiful scenery. You can choose to hike the 3.8-mile out-and-back trail (with an elevation gain of 980 feet), or simply take in the views from the Visitor Center for a quick photo.

Then, take Highway 14 to Red Rock Canyon State Park, near Cantil. You may want to take some time here to explore and take pictures, because the whole landscape is very beautiful and full of red rocks, as its name suggests. I don’t understand how this State Park is so unpopular (we never saw any visitors there!) If you have time, you can hike Hagen Canyon and Red Rock Canyon. Or, if you’re there for a quick break, drive around to see Joshua Trees and beautiful red rock cliff faces. Some Instagrammable spots you can find around Red Rock Canyon State Park include Turk’s Turban (below, left), Camel Rock, Hagen Canyon, and the Red Cliffs Natural Area off the highway (below, right ). Once you’re done in the park, head to Ridgecrest to spend the night.

Start the morning with a 45 minute drive to the surreal landscape that is the Trona Pinnacles. The road to the Trona Pinnacles is unpaved and rough (it’s a five-mile dirt road), so allow plenty of time to get there if you don’t have a car. 4WD because you need to go a lot. late In general, it’s helpful to have a 4WD vehicle for this trip, because you can get to some parts of Death Valley that you can’t get to anywhere else (like the Racetrack Playa), and it’s easy to get to Trona Pinnacles, but it’s not 100% necessary and we did the trip in a regular SUV. The Trona Pinnacles are made up of 500 oddly shaped spiers that rise up to 140 feet above Searles Dry Lake, creating a strange landscape that has been featured in vintage sci-fi flicks, and new Also, the HBO TV show Westworld. Be sure to take some time to drive around the pinnacles to see them from different perspectives! One of my favorite views from the top of the road is the car inside.

From Trona Pinnacles, we drive about two hours on Highway 395 to Lone Pine, featuring the Alabama Hills and the Mount Whitney Portal, to explore for the afternoon. Since there are no roads, you can choose to skip this section and go straight to highway 190 and Death Valley for the fastest route to the national park. When you arrive in Lone Pine, depending on how much time you have, you can drive 20 minutes on the Whitney Portal Road to reach the Mount Whitney Trailhead. Here, you’ll find the main trail to Mount Whitney, which is the highest point in the United States, as well as trails for shorter climbs, such as the 5.1 route from the outback to Lone Pine Lake.

Another option is to drive around Movie Flat Road for beautiful views around the Alabama Hills. You can drop by some of the walls around the area, like Mobius Arch (also a great spot for astral photography!), Boot Arch, and of course, the Insta-famous shot below the Film Route for the best desert film. Op. You’ll probably see this video clip (below) from all over Instagram, and it’s popular as a photo of the day. Depending on the time of our road trip, we actually visited here for sunset, which is probably a good time to shoot here because the light is not too harsh.

When you’re done exploring all around Lone Pine, head out to Death Valley – the drive can take 1-2 hours depending on where you plan to stay to the park. For our visit, we stayed at The Inn at the Oasis in Death Valley at Furnace Creek, a popular, 4-diamond hotel perfect for those looking for something comfortable during their Death Valley stay. .

Yes, you have reached death valley! Now, you can extend your trip to more than five days if you want more time to explore Death Valley National Park, or try to fit in a hurricane day trip. and a half. cigarettes. If you go from sunrise to sunset, you can take in a lot! for our trip, we spent two full days in the park, and we were able to do everything we wanted (there are places that cannot be reached without a 4WD vehicle) that time. Death Valley is so picturesque, it can be difficult to choose what to see in Death Valley if your time there is short. That said, I’ve narrowed down what I think are the most important things in the park to make the most of your time there. Here are 6 of the best photo spots to visit in Death Valley National Park!

Roads In Death Valley Make You Pray To The Rental Car Gods That Everything Runs Smooth.

I loved Zabriskie Point so much that I think we went back three times in the two days we visited the park. It also helped that it was a short drive from where we were staying at the Oasis in Death Valley! We visited in the afternoon, at sunset, and at night, and of the three, my favorite was the sunset. As you can see below, sunset is one of the best times to visit Zabriskie Point, as the sun illuminates the hills in shades of orange and the anointing. But remember to stick around for a while, as the sky comes alive with the Milky Way after dark, and Zabriskie Point is a great spot for shooting the stars.

Depending on the time of year, you may be lucky enough to catch the Milky Way directly above you, as I did in the shot below (right). What I love about Zabriskie Point is that there is so much shooting there in all directions. You can take pictures of the point itself or looking at the Golden Canyon, or go to the end of one of the paths for beautiful photo spots. The whole episode is just amazing!

All of Artist’s Drive is filled with beautiful photo spots, but the best is the Artist’s Palette, at the end of the loop road. From a van, you can take amazing pictures overlooking the rainbow hills, named for the pastel colors made from minerals like the paintings printed on the mountains. It is very beautiful when the golden hour illuminates the whole place. If you have time, it is worth going down the hills and up the ridges for unique views and views of almost all colors.

Badwater Basin is home to Death Valley’s famous salt waters, and is the lowest point in North America, coming in at 282 feet below sea level! It can go out a little bit of salt
