Downtown Grand Las Vegas Reviews – The Downtown Grand, formerly Lady Luck, is located just a few blocks away from the Fremont Street Experience and delivers a unique, boutique experience. In 2006, the Lady Luck closed its doors for renovations that never took place and the building sat vacant until 2013 when the Downtown Grand that exists today opened after an overhaul of its 600+ hotel rooms. Recently, construction began on a new hotel tower that will increase the resort’s room count to over 1,000 guest rooms.
We’ve enjoyed the Grand’s dining options as well as its uncrowded, affordable casino in the past, and staying at the property’s hotel is on our Vegas to-do list.
Downtown Grand Las Vegas Reviews
We booked a “Premium King” room which is a step up from the Downtown Grand’s baseline “Deluxe” option. That modest upgrade gave us an additional 100 square feet and for a mid-week rate of about $40 plus $29.36 in resort fees seemed like a pretty decent value. Is it though? Let’s dive into the details!
Hotel Apache Serves As Key Link To Las Vegas History
We stayed at Binion’s new take on the Hotel Apache the night before and it was a nice contrast to the “old-timey” vibe that Binion offers. Downtown Grand’s rooms have a modern vibe and feel fresh. Hotel guests receive free parking and access to a fitness center with cardio equipment. Premium rooms at the Downtown Grand are also corner rooms with more windows and usually better views.
Our Premium King room has all the basic amenities you would expect in a Las Vegas hotel room such as hairdryer, iron/iron, safe, 46′ flat-screen TV (vs 40″ in DTG’s standard room), USB charging ports , hanging/drawer storage space, high-speed internet, 2 bottles of water daily, and C.O. Bigelow bath products. An additional item not common in Vegas hotel rooms is a white noise machine that can help drown out the distant roars from the Fremont Street Experience. Here are some angles of our accommodations:
The bathroom features a shower/tub combo and dual sinks. Nothing to knock your socks off, but certainly a functional, spacious, bathroom that will meet the needs of most guests. Interestingly, the shower has no door, only a short glass partition that doesn’t do a good job of keeping water from splashing onto the floor.
Our favorite aspect of the room was the additional space provided by upgrading to a premium room. The standard deluxe room at DTG has 350 square feet, while the premium room has 450 square feet. The additional space is great and allows for two chairs and a small table that can easily be integrated into the room.

Overall, the room has a modern feel with newer furnishings and a very comfortable bed. An added bonus is the view of DTG’s Fremont Street Experience and Citrus Pool Deck.
A key feature of the property, Downtown Grand’s rooftop Citrus Pool Deck allows guests to cool off in their elevated pool and enjoy cocktails/food items from the poolside bar. If a nice pool area is important to you when staying downtown, the Downtown Grand is a solid option.
Note that even if not staying at DTG, you can access the pool for a fee ($5 on weekdays and $10 on weekends)
The casino at the Downtown Grand was the reason I wanted to book a room. This is one of my favorites in Las Vegas. DTG’s gaming floor has a modern vibe, 375 slot games to choose from, as well as some of the most rewarding video poker pay tables you’ll find in Vegas.
Sahara Las Vegas
My game of choice is Craps and the DTG crew is always helpful, friendly, and fun. The table games feature low limits, usually $5 minimums which fit my low rolling budget. Cocktail servers are plentiful and I rarely have an empty drink while playing.
The casino itself is usually sparsely populated and a seat at a table game or machine is not hard to find.
Dining options are plentiful and cover the spectrum of tastes with something for everyone. On the cheaper end, Pizza Rock (Raked our best pizza by the slice in Vegas) delivers a quality slice for next to nothing.

Viva Las Vegas
Triple George resides on the higher end of the price/quality spectrum but is a very good value compared to steakhouses on the Strip. You can expect to pay $20 for pasta entrees and anywhere from $30-$80 for meatier items depending on what you’re in the mood for. Check out Triple George’s menu here.
The Furnace Bar is smack dab in the middle of the casino floor and also offers bar-top video poker with progressives. I can’t tell you how much beer because they keep the comped beverages flowing while VP drains my wallet. Excellent service.
My room overlooks Fremont Street, however, the fact that DTG is set a few blocks back from the chaos helps. Live music shows are definitely audible, but do not disturb sleep. A white noise machine and earplugs were provided but I didn’t find it necessary and fell asleep easily. I thought 8 beers didn’t hurt either.
It comes down to your personal noise sensitivity. Many guest reviews say that the noise is unbearable. If this is a concern, I recommend staying elsewhere.
Should You Play $1 Blackjack At Downtown Grand And Oyo?
For those who don’t mind noise, you might want to consider a Superior Room at the Downtown Grand, located in their new Gallery Tower. I found that particular type of room very quiet.
I found the premium king room at the Downtown Grand to have a modern, furnished feel at a rock-solid price compared to similar rooms on the Strip. The extra 100 square feet delivered by the inexpensive upgrade made a huge difference. While some crave the “grimder” or older feel that downtown properties can provide, the Downtown Grand is anything but. Instead, it succeeds in delivering an updated, hip party vibe.
The location is one of my favorite features of the property. DTG is only two blocks from Fremont Street which is a quick walk but makes a big difference as it relates to noise. Live entertainment can definitely still be heard, but the distance helps with the removal.
If you’re happy with mid-tier rooms on the Strip (like the LINQ, Flamingo, etc) and want to give a downtown stay a shot, the Downtown Grand is a fantastic option.

The run of old hotels and casinos are still there, some rebuilt – with massive LED screens sitting above the strip. But it’s around here where things get interesting; several newer or redeveloped hotels and dining options have popped up, and there’s also the decade-long arts and entertainment development of what’s known as “Fremont Street East”, now stretching six blocks and full of of attractions unique to the city.
