In all that time, the franchise’s 12 films (nine mainline, one spinoff, and two shorts) have woven together a busy narrative that has proven difficult to follow. With the latest movie Fast and Furious: Fast X now available to stream online, we’ve put together this handy guide to watching the Fast and Furious movies in order.

How Many ‘fast & Furious’ Movies Are There? Here’s The List In Order

At the bottom of the list, you’ll find a second list that orders the movies by their actual release dates, if you’d like to see them in that order instead. Given its lack of importance to the film’s ongoing narrative, we are not including the animated sequel Fast & Furious: Spy Racers.

There are currently 13 Fast and Furious movies, 2 short films, and an animated series. With Fast X out now, there seems to be no end to the Fast and Furious cinematic universe. See our guide on how to watch any Fast and Furious movie for streaming movie information.

The timeline begins with the first film of the franchise, 2001’s The Fast and the Furious. The straightforward action plot tasks Paul Walker’s undercover cop Brian O’Conner with taking down a group of car thieves led by Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto. Brian gets into illegal street racing, befriends Dom, starts dating his sister (Jordan Brewster’s Mia Toretto), and ultimately chooses that relationship over his job as a cop. The first film also introduces viewers to series star Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz, Dom’s love interest.

The Turbo Charged Prelude of 2 Fast 2 Furious shows that Brian O’Conner, on the run from law enforcement, moves from LA to Miami before the events of 2 Fast 2 Furious. The six minute short film has no dialogue and few genres. It’s not important to see, but it’s here anyway.

The Fast And Furious Movies’ Timeline Explained

The series’ only movie without Dom Toretto, 2 Fast 2 Furious introduces Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej Parker (Chris “Ludacris” Bridges). The story follows Brian O’Connor and Pearce as they go undercover to take down a drug lord in exchange for their criminal records being expunged – a goal that ultimately succeeds. It also announces O’Connor’s new love interest in Eva Mendes’s Monica Fuentes, who only appears again briefly in Fast Five.

The second of two short film series, Los Bandoleros takes place between Fast 1 and Fast 4, although its exact placement on the timeline is never stated. Written and directed by Vin Diesel, Los Bandoleros is set in the Dominican Republic, where Dom is lying down after the events of Fast 1. In its 20 minutes, the film is able to cover the oil war, corrupt politics, and prison. break, resulting in a romantic reunion between Dom and Letty. In time, it is also the first time to see the death of Sung Kang-scorned Han Lue.

Fast & Furious is the fourth film of the line, although it leads Tokyo Drift (film number three) in history. It’s a sequel to Fast 1, set five years later, with Dom and Brian teaming up again to take down a drug lord and avenge Letty’s “death”. Dom is eventually arrested and sentenced, although on the way to prison, Brian, Mia, and Tego Leo (Tego Calderon) are seen catching the prison bus. Fast & Furious also introduces Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar. It was the first major film role of Wonder Woman.

Regular director Justin Lin’s third Fast movie raised the stakes with big sets and a high-profile cast featuring Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs. Picking up where Fast & Furious left off, Dom heads to Rio de Janeiro with Mia and Brian after they escape his prison cell. A typical story unfolds: They steal and speed off street cars while on the run from a government agency, this time Luke Hobbs and the DEA. Eva Mendes’s Monica Fuentes returns in a mid-credits scene to show Letty is still alive.

Fast 6 begins with Dom and his crew again at the palace. Hobbs, meanwhile, is hoping to take down a group of mercenaries led by Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw. Hobbs takes Dom by showing him a picture of Letty, whom Dom believes is dead, and offers him and his crew an apology back in the U.S. As usual, there are car shenanigans and casualties, although things end well for the crew, and the franchise continues. The post-credit scene introduces Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw to the series.

The wackiest of the Fast movies timeline-wise is the series’ third movie, which actually takes place between Fast 6 and 7. The first Fast movie directed by Justin Lin features a Dom cameo but focuses mainly on young street racers Sean Boswell (Lucas Black. ) and Twinkie (Shad “Bow Wow” Moss), with series regular Han Lue serving as Sean’s mentor. With a $62 million haul, it is the sequel’s least successful box office grosser.

The series’ biggest box office success to date is Furious 7, which grossed more than $300 million – no other fast-paced film has grossed $250 million. It’s also the most critically acclaimed Rotten Tomatoes score of 82% (five points better than runner-up Fast Five). Fury 7 picks up at the end of Tokyo Drift, with Statham’s Deckard Shaw serving as the main character. Directed by James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring, Aquaman).

This is the last Fast film with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner, as Walker died during filming. Fury 7 ends with an emotional farewell to Brian/Walker.

All Of The ‘fast & Furious’ Movies Ranked In Terms Of Plausibility

Order is reversed here as Fast 8 follows Fast 7 in both literal and fictional time. The film’s cast includes Charlize Theron, Russell Crowe, Scott Eastwood, and Helen Mirren, along with regulars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham. In addition to the expected dose of fast cars, over-the-top action, and double crossings, Fast 8 finds time for cyberterrorism and the threat of nuclear war.

The series’ only spinoff film to date stars Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Statham’s Deckard Shaw. The two, who became friends after escaping prison together in the previous film, are tasked with saving people from a deadly virus. The spinoff also brings the legendary Idris Elba into the stable as the skilled warrior Brixton Lore.

Back in 2020, Johnson said he was working on a Hobbs and Shaw sequel, although he vowed to stay out of major films due to his feud with Vin Diesel. So as of now there are no ongoing discussions for a sequel.

The series’ latest film before Fast X, also directed by Justin Lin, pits Dom and crew against Jakob Toretto, Dom’s estranged brother from John Cena. The whole family is here for this one, as almost every major series player to date returns, in addition to new blood like Cena, Michael Rooker, and Cardi B. The plot includes another threat to humanity: Project Aries, a device that can control everything. of the country’s weapons programs. As usual, the plan goes awry, in part due to Roman and Tej flying the Pontiac into space.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ (2019) Movie Review

Fast X is set to be the second to last chapter in the Fast and Furious series. Dom will have to protect his family from a new enemy named Dante (Jason Momoa) who is seeking revenge after the death of his father in Fast 5.

If you’re wondering how to watch Fast X right now, it’s available to rent on Amazon or you can stream it on Peacock with a subscription.

Now that Fast X has arrived, it will be the second to last film of the mainline The Fast and Furious movies, but that doesn’t mean we’re done with heaven. There are plans for Dwayne Johnson to star in a new Fast and Furious movie as Luke Hobbs in 2025. There are also rumors that The Fast and Furious spinoff will be directed by the women of the series, according to a report from Syfy. Although, again, nothing is confirmed there, either.
