It’s very nice. Loved the hotel pick up and the private tour. There are 7 of us in the Trekker and I don’t think it would be as comfortable if there was another couple with us because we had room to spread out and make ourselves comfortable in the car without worrying about another party. John is very smart and friendly. He knows everything about everything. I love learning about the history of this place and of course learning about the Grand Canyon. He pointed out interesting sights along the way and we got a good feel for this arra. Unfortunately, the weather was too cold and windy to enjoy the south rim of the canyon. While we had about 2.5 hours to spend there, it was too cold to walk around the rim for any decent amount of time and we spent most of our time trying to stay warm inside the lodge and gift shops.

Beyond its amazing luxury hotels and all the cool things to do on the Las Vegas Strip that make it a famous kitsch oasis in the hot Nevada desert, Las Vegas’ big advantage is all about its strategic location for visiting Southwest parks. , not only in Nevada (Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon), but also in California (Death Valley), Arizona (Grand Canyon – Antelope –Monument Valley) and Utah (Zion and Bryce and others). In our in-depth exploration of how to visit the parks from Las Vegas, we gave tips for organized and independent tours of most of these places, but today I want to focus on one of them in particular, perhaps the best known (although somewhat challenging…): the Grand Canyon.
It is not as simple as it seems. Because of the vast expanse of the famous Arizona park, I have to give you specific directions to each section of the canyon. You may not know it, but the park is divided into three “districts”, which can be identified by the three sides of the canyon that can be visited. The most famous is the South Rim, but there is also the lower North Rim and the West Rim (in the Hualapai reservation, which is famous for the unique and somewhat obstructive Skywalk). The last one is the closest to Las Vegas, while the other two (North and South Rim) are further away, not only from the city but also from each other, which makes it impossible to visit them both in one day, as you can read in our article on how to choose between the North Rim and the South Rim.

These distances, complete with failures, are for the shortest routes between Las Vegas and the various areas of the Grand Canyon, and remember that these are the travel times for each route without any intermediate stop. However, if you decide not to stop between destinations, you risk getting lost when you’re on a US road trip. that, if you decide not to stop, you will definitely regret it.
For example? Going to the West Rim and South Rim, by taking some short detours, you can reach some great attractions on Route 66 and the Hoover Dam, while on the way to the North Rim we can see the Valley of Fire and, a short distance away, the parks of southern Utah.
