Hilton Waikiki Beach Review: What To Really Expect If You Stay
Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort is a resort hotel located on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. This resort first opened in 1955,
Since then, it has grown to become the largest of the Hilton hotel chain and one of the largest hotels in the world.
The John A Estate on the Hawaiian island of Oahu was originally built on the site of Kalia Village, where Duke Kahanamoku spent his childhood. It consisted of a private estate with an owner’s residence, a tant house and a salt flat. The part of the property closest to the ocean beach was developed by him around 1900 as a small hotel named Old Waikiki and redeveloped in 1928 as Niumaru His Hotel.
The Hawaiian Village Hotel was conceived, built and first operated by Harry J. Kaiser, the businessman who built the Hoover and Grand Coulee Dams and founded the Kaiser Permante Health System. In 1954, Kaiser and developer Fritz B. Burns purchased John A.’s 16-acre (6.5 ha) Kalia estate and combined it with the Niumalu Hotel to build Hawaiian Village, converting the apartments into a lagoon. They built him a thatched cottage with 70 rooms, a tapa room, a garden and three swimming pools, and opened the hotel on September 15, 1955.

In 1957, the modern Ocean Tower and famous geodesic dome were added. Conrad Hilton purchased his half of the resort from Hry J. Kaiser in 1961. Hilton Hotels & Resorts took over on February 1, 1961, operating the resort as the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Elvis Presley stayed at the hotel shortly afterwards while filming Blue Hawaii. In 1968, the resort’s iconic Rainbow Tower featured the world’s largest and tallest ceramic tile mosaic on its facade, measuring 26 feet wide and 286 feet tall, requiring more than 16,000 individual tiles. Tapa Tower was added in 1982, and the original Ocean Tower was demolished and rebuilt in 1987 with the addition of a second floor, at which time it was built as Ali’i Tower. The 25-story Kalia Tower was added in 2001.
The hotel may be best known as the filming location for the popular television series Hawaiian Eye, which aired on ABC from 1959 to 1963 (its acquisition by Hilton changed its name in 1961). officially indicated by a sign). It was filmed there. The majority of the series was filmed at Warner Bros. Burbank studio.
In 1999, Hilton’s Hawaiian Village was used as a filming location for a two-week episode of Wheel of Fortune.

In 2006, Hilton Hotels received $25 million to settle a lawsuit alleging toxic mold growth in the Kalia Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
In 2015, the hotel was included in the Historic Hotels of America, an official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel now sits on his 8.9-hectare (22-acre) oceanfront property near Ala Moana Center. Featuring Waikiki’s largest swimming pool, more than 22 restaurants, exotic wildlife, botanical gardens, Duke’s Lagoon, and historical exhibits on loan from Bishop Museum.

The main concept behind Hawaiian Village was to provide guests with a complete Hawaiian experience without leaving the resort. This means guests can stay at the resort for the entire duration of their stay, with restaurants, shops, and more.

When building the Hawaiian Village Hotel, Kaiser developed a “village plan” for the resort. In the village plan, different sections of the development were designed with specific types of motifs that were indicative of the culture surrounding the hotel. The various villages at the former Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa surround the Diamond Head Tower, Ali’i Tower, Tapa Tower, Rainbow Tower, Lagoon Tower, Kalia Tower, Grand Waikikian, and the Grand Islander Centerpiece Tower. The newest tower is the Grand Islander, which opened to the public on March 1, 2017.
The Village Hotel has a small pond that is home to several species of turtles (box turtles and softshell turtles). Other animals living on the property include several species of ducks, lesser flamingos, black ibises, night herons, carp, chameleons, macaws and parakeets. As of June 2014, the Hilton Hawaiian Village moved its remaining three South African black-footed penguins to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.
Wanting an auditorium in the village of Honolulu, Harry and his Kaiser obtained a license to build a geodesic dome, modeled after Fuller’s design by Buckminster. The 145-foot (44 m)-wide, aluminum-clad dome was manufactured at the company’s factory in Oakland, California, and shipped to Hawaii in 1957. Kaiser flew from San Francisco to Hawaii, understanding that the material had arrived there. I followed the construction and found that the building was already completed and was built in just 22 hours.
Many records from the Golden Age of Exotica, especially most of Arthur Lyman’s albums, were recorded in the Dome, which was known for its acoustics and natural reverberation. He was demolished in 1999 to make space for Kalia Tower. Historic Hotels of America preserves the authenticity of America’s most famous lodging properties and provides visitors with a rich travel experience.
