First, I want to clear up my thoughts about Valentine’s Day. My husband and I don’t do Valentine’s Day, but that’s because it’s meaningless. We make mushy lovers the rest of the year. We’ve been together for almost a decade, so this seems like a good year to go the extra mile!
Along those same lines, love is a unique human emotion. It’s not limited to romantic love (which, let’s face it, can be complicated and difficult). My favorite kind of love is quiet and unassuming: the neighbor who brings you soup, the child you tuck into bed with at night, your friend who is your best friend (even after you chose to you and so on). That’s the love I want to celebrate!
You can send a love letter to many loved ones in your life: parents, children, best friends, siblings, grandparents. So, let’s write!

Just because you write a love letter doesn’t mean they’re going to be a cute piece of college paper wrapped in a white envelope. Be creative and put your own little spin on things! One of my favorite “letters” to Justin was made using some crazy crafting skills (wink, wink). Basically, I got some USMA/Army color cards, some military notebook binders, threw in a couple of different items, and got some pretty cute cards. I have been known to throw some wonderful things into the letters or make a game out of them (like that time I put a card and an envelope for him to write me a letter… I’m waiting for that). I can’t help you much here, other than to say, do a picture or two first. The last thing you want to do is mess up the beautiful fixtures you’ve chosen. This is handy if you want to be creative with your message. If you’re not sure what to write, there’s actually a wikiHow on writing love letters, complete with details. When you write, think about how you feel about that person and your relationship. Try not to get too cheesy or boring with cliches (I almost always do).
