Ralph Gelstad purchased the Flamingo Capri in 1971 and added a casino the following year. In 1974, he built additional motel buildings and eventually added the 19-story Imperial Palace Tower in 1977. On November 1, 1979, Gelstad named the area Tire Imperial Palace, when a new casino opened on the site. The Flamingo Capri Casino was demolished to make way for the Imperial Palace trance, although some motel rooms would remain in service for decades. Imperial Palace was the first Asian-themed resort on the Strip. It was popular with middle-class guests and wealthy people. Longtime attractions included The Auto Collections, an automotive museum that operated from 1981 to 2017; and Legds in Concert, a show that ran from 1983 to 2009.

Gelstad added additional hotel towers from 1982 to 1987, increasing the number of rooms to 2,637. It was one of the largest hotels in the world. When Gelstad died in 2002, the Imperial Palace was the second largest privately owned hotel in the world after the Vetian Resort in Las Vegas. After his death, a group that included his wife, Betty, took over the operation. Harrah’s tertainmt (later known as Caesars tertainmt) purchased the Imperial Palace in 2005 for $370 million. The company considered partially or completely demolishing the resort before deciding on restoration. On December 21, 2012, Caesars rammed a resort called The Quad. The Asian theme has been removed and the object has been redesigned.

Linq Promade – an outdoor collection of bars, restaurants and retailers – was opened by Caesars in 2013. It was built along the southern edge of the Quad. Promade’s signature feature is the High Roller Ferris Wheel, the second tallest in the world, second only to the Ain Dubai Ferris Wheel. On October 30, 2014, the Quad was renamed The Linq to match the new promade. The name change was accompanied by a $223 million investment that modernized the resort to attract the new millennial demographic. The Linq includes 33,890 sq ft (3,148 m

The property began as the $2 million, 180-room Flamingo Capri Motel, owned by George E. Goldberg and Bill Capri. The motel was built directly north of the Flamingo Hotel and Casino, where Capri worked. Construction of the motel began in May 1959.

Gelstad chose the Orital theme because of its uniqueness, as there were no other Asian-themed resorts on the Strip.

For the roof of the resort, Bart chose blue tiles imported from Japan, influenced by Japanese temples. The interior also features many Orital elements, including carved dragons and giant chandeliers with wind chimes.

The resort did little to no marketing, but still achieved high occupancy rates thanks to its Strip location and low room rates.
