Magic Tricks With Hands Only – Great magic takes years of practice and finesse, but everyday tricks are actually a lot easier than you think. Here are 15 illusions you can create with objects around the house (or restaurant or bar) to dazzle those who don’t have the power of enchantment.
It has a basic premise, but it’s difficult to master. Grab a Styrofoam cup and tell your audience that you have the unique ability to make it float. Make sure you take a few steps back, and as you prepare to impress them, carefully run your thumb across the back of the cup and start twirling your fingers around it to a) distract from the aforementioned thumb and b) add some much needed demonstration! It will seem like your magical fingers are holding the cup aloft.

If you’ve ever seen this one, you know it’s extremely impressive when done well. Stand on one side of the room and position yourself so that you are diagonal to the audience – your back heel should be closest to them. Slowly lift your heels and add a slight float-like wobble, then gently lift the entire foot closest to the audience off the ground. This will take some practice, but when everyone else is standing, the foot that is completely off the ground will block the toe of the other foot (this effectively keeps you on the ground) and you seem to be defying gravity.
Magic Card Trick Explained
Cut a quarter hole in the side of the plastic water bottle. Ideally, you’ll want a bottle with protrusions to help hide your important change. Show your audience the bottle and the quarter so they can see “no tricks” and count “1, 2, 3” before you tap the bottle holding the quarter with your hand and slide the George Washington piece inside. The coin will bounce around the bottom of the bottle and seem to defy the laws of physics.
Hold a dollar bill between your thumb and forefinger and slide a quarter between your thumb and the bill so the audience can’t see it. Swing the dollar, grab the other side and click it to show that no tricks or weird things are going on with it. Dim lighting is best for this as these bills can be a bit transparent. Fold the bill in half (cutting symmetrically along old George Washington’s head) and then in half again in the same manner. Now you can squeeze it tight and pretend to shake a quarter out of seemingly nowhere. Don’t forget to talk about your road to fame and fortune…25 cents a time.
For this trick, you need to grab a key ring or even a ring from someone’s finger and a rubber band. Tear the elastic and thread it through the ring before stretching the elastic between your hands – one higher in the air than the other. The main thing for this is to stretch only a small part of the rubber band and push the remaining free thread into the palm of the lower hand. Slowly release the rest of the band and the ring will appear to lift itself up the rubber band. As with all these techniques, don’t forget the theatrics. You should sell it and take your time.
It is good to impress children. Have them grab a box of pencils, turn their backs to them, and ask them to choose a pencil. Then ask them to place it in your hands behind their backs. Turn around, always keeping your hands behind your back, and explain that you’re going to read their minds. As you do this, gently scrape the pencil with your fingernail and transfer it to your other hand. Now it’s time for mind reading. Wave your hand over their heads, as if collecting your thoughts, and look at the color that ended up under your nail. Then take your hand behind your back and unlock your incredible powers of omniscience.
Easy Magic Tricks For Birthday Parties (step By Step)
Pick someone in the room and tell them to mentally pick any item in the room. Leave the room and tell that person to tell everyone else about the chosen object. After the secret dissipates, you return to the room and choose another not-so-random person who walks around the room, going from item to item. The audience doesn’t know it, but this person is your mole. The key is that you pick a predetermined color (usually black) and whenever they touch something of that color, the next object will be the one chosen by the ignorant participant.
The prep work for this restaurant trick may have to be done while your companion is on the toilet. Or, alternatively, reserve it for children who may not yet know about the magic of electricity. Take a straw wrapped in paper and rub the paper up and down a few times to create some static. Then place the straw on top of the bottle so that it is parallel to the table. The frictional charge you just created will be such that when you bring your hands up to the straw, it will spin like the hands of a clock. With the right moves, you can make it look like it’s bending to your will.
There are tons of disappearing coin tricks out there, and each requires a certain level of manual skill. This one is weird because it involves a blip. While sitting, pick up a coin and say that you will make it disappear. Rest your elbow on the table and start rubbing the coin on your elbow/forearm, playing hype man for the audience. Then drop the coin. It will fall on the table. Now for the key part of the trick: make it look like you grabbed it with one hand, but it’s actually in the other. Then put your elbow in place and drop the coin down the back of your shirt. Continue to rub the “coin” on the elbow and slowly show it disappearing. Getting up can be tricky if you want to maintain the illusion, so consider wearing a top as well.
Start with two small objects – not necessarily matches, but things close to matches in size and shape are best. Place them side by side on the table. Place one hand on top of one and one hand on top of the other. Then turn over one empty hand, then the other. This is where the trick begins. Take one of the items and do a “fake transfer,” which means pretending to place it in the other hand while secretly placing it in your palm. This may seem obvious, but practice makes it very convincing. Quickly clench both fists. Then pick up the remaining object with your thumb and forefinger, if the other is already in that palm, and now both matches are in one hand, although the audience thinks you’ve switched them and one in each hand. Open the empty hand for a thrilling moment that makes it look like you’re doing a vanishing trick, then the other hand that holds both objects. Yes!
What Doing Magic Tricks For Birds Is Revealing About Animal Minds
All it takes is a toothpick and some tape. As inconspicuously as possible, secure the toothpick to the outside of the thumb with tape or by licking the nail part of the thumb and pressing it firmly into the skin. The toothpick should be parallel to your bunion and within the thumb. If you bent your thumb, the toothpick would run off the edge of the joint. If you give someone a thumbs up while facing them, they won’t see the toothpick.
The audience should be right in front of you during the main event. Hold the toothpick with your bent thumb and wrap your fingers around it to hide the tape, say “
”, and open your empty hand while the toothpick sits on the back of your thumb. It will appear as if it disappeared from thin air.
Some magic tricks get a lot of mileage simply because they surprised. This is one of those. Stuff a sponge into the bottom of a coffee mug or other opaque cup and add a couple of ice cubes. Pour some water into the cup using the pitcher and show off your ability to turn water into ice before tipping the cup over and letting the cubes fall out. Sure, a quick look at the cup will reveal your plot pretty quickly, but for a moment you’ll be pure magic.

The next time you’re going on a bad date or you’ve simply run out of dinner topics, pick up a spoon to impress your mates. After turning the handle up and placing the spoon vertically on the table, take it with both hands so that the audience can see only the top and bottom of the dish. Imagine you’re bending the spoon, but you’re actually just letting go of the handle
