Day Mississippi River Cruise Roundtrip From New Orleans On American Queen

The next morning, the Mississippi River took us to Vicksburg, Mississippi. An important site for battle in the war, archaeologists are still finding artifacts buried in the mud.

There is time back at the port to explore the beautiful Yazoo and Mississippi R.R. Station building, now the old Museum Depot.

I wish I had a little more time to look at all the drawings but they seem endless. Painted by Robert Dafford, the murals were unveiled to the public in April 2002.

After your busy day exploring Vicksburg, be sure to leave time to walk and explore along the waterfront. It’s worth it.

We had to stop right on Beale Street, the heart of Memphis. Instead, the ship’s Captain had to stop at Mud Island because of a special public event.

I decided to go on a tour of Graceland even though I’m not an Elvis fan (it was a few years before I saw a transistor radio!) That’s his house, not very beautiful and looks like suburban house in the north of the city than I expected. .

Graceland seems frozen in time. You can tour all the rooms below but the upstairs, where Elvis died, is off limits.

Memphis To New Orleans River Cruise

Unlike everyone else on this cruise who was flying home, I chose to ride overnight on Amtrak’s famous city of New Orleans train from Memphis to New Orleans.

I kept my bedroom, and looked forward to a restful night, a meal in the dining car (or my room) and of course, a hot cup of coffee on the train.

Instead of rushing to the airport, this is the last stop for a memorable week. When we arrived in New Orleans, I spent the night and picked up a rental car to drive back to Florida the next day.

The most common Mississippi River cruises are between New Orleans and Memphis or St. There are also several long New Orleans to St. Paul, Minnesota or back to cruise every summer.

Why Your Next River Cruise Should Be In The U.s.

If you are wondering if Mississippi River Cruise ships have a casino, the answer is no. Late night Mississippi River cruise ships do not have a casino.
