He is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in Total Joint Replacements. His training took him to some of the most prestigious medical centers in the world, training under world-renowned surgeons and medical pioneers. Some of these sites include Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Michigan. His ossuary is a friend of Michigan State University. Dr. Dodson strives to expand his knowledge of orthopedics on the needs of medical institutions. He was honored as a New Fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Of the more than 50,000 orthopedic surgeons in this country, more than 4,000 orthopedic surgeons have received this honor. He was chosen because of his fellowship training and the large number of surgeries he has performed over the past two decades. Dr. Dodson was also honored as a Fellow and Diplomat of the International College of Surgeons.

Dr. Dodson was one of several replacement specialists on the research and development team of Kyocera Renovis Surgical Technologies, an orthopedic implant company with many products in spine, trauma and adult reconstruction.
In addition to doing joint replacements, Dr. Dodson has experience and interests in surgery involving the hands, shoulder and knees, and the management of fractures and ligament injuries. He provides non-surgical treatment for back pain and is recognized as a workers’ compensation expert.
Dr. Dodson served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. He is also the co-founder of Southern New Mexico Surgery Center, an award-winning, outpatient surgery center in Alamogordo, NM. He was honored as one of the “106 Physician Leaders in the ASC Industry” nationwide. Dr. Dodson also likes to give back to the community. Dr. John Joseph Anderson is a native of the Southwest who grew up in Arizona. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Northern Arizona University. He received his training at the Medical School in Des Moines, Iowa where he graduated at the top of his class.
Dr. Anderson was admitted to one of the top surgical centers in the country; Scripps -Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center in San Diego, California. While in San Diego, Dr. Anderson has received many research awards and studied new surgical procedures in the legs and feet. In San Diego he served as a Senior Resident and lectured throughout the country on advanced surgery.
Following his years in San Diego, Dr. Anderson has been accepted for advanced training in Northern California at the Sacramento-Kaiser Surgery Program. There he received additional training in foot, leg and ankle surgery.
Dr. Anderson is Board Certified in Foot, Rear Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Anderson has worked in Alamogordo since 2002, when he joined the New Mexico Bone and Joint Institute. He served as the Chief of Surgery at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center and is the Medical Director of the Southern New Mexico Surgery Center. He is also a surgical textbook author and serves on the editorial board of medical journals as an expert in foot and leg surgery.
He is particularly interested in complex revision cases that other doctors will not undertake. These include arthroscopy, reconstructive surgery, limb salvage surgery and posterior surgery. From fractures to heel pain, Dr. Anderson is trained in modern and advanced therapies.

Dr. Eric J Freeh arrived from Phoenix in 1996 to join The New Mexico Bone and Joint Institute. He is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon, with subspecialty fellowship training in trauma and fracture care. He gained national recognition as a true expert in the field. Dr. Freeh really helped in the training of Dr. Dodson, a founding member of Alamogordo Orthopedics. They spent time together in Phoenix when Dr. Dodson was in medical school. Both were very happy to renew their friendship as peers when Dr. Freeh moved to Alamogordo from his successful career in Arizona. His experience in Phoenix was significant as a member of the staff that managed the Phoenix Suns, the spring training camp of the Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners, as well as many high schools and colleges.
Along with his highly focused treatment of fractures, Dr. Freeh is also interested in many aspects of orthopedic surgery including sports medicine. He also performs arthroscopy of the knee and has a special intererst in hands and upper upper surgery, always taking care of problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, ganglion cysts, arthritis, meniscal tears and ligamentous injuries.
Dr. Freeh is one of the founding members of the Southern New Mexico Surgery Center, a two-time winner of the APEX Quality Award from CTQ solutions. His professional ratings from patients are exemplary. Dr. Freeh is known in the area as a surgeon who takes time to listen. He then develops an orthopedic sports program with the patient who tries to achieve a quick recovery and return to regular activities such as sports, hobbies and work.

For those who don’t know, Dr. Freeh is an accomplished musician, playing many stringed instruments such as guitar, mandolin, banjo and ukulele. He has truly enjoyed passing that love on to his children. His knowledge of classic cars is also impressive, and in addition to his knowledge of cars, he enjoys his hobby of repairing and rebuilding many types of cars. This is also a great source of “family time” for him.

Dr. Spencer was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. He went to Arizona State University where he graduated with a degree in Biology. During his undergraduate training, he developed an interest in research while working as a microbiologist in the laboratory of the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. Spencer received his medical school training at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. As a member of the freshman class, he had many leadership opportunities and served as president of the biomechanics club and vice president of the sports medicine club.
Dr. Spencer completed a three-year surgical residency at Scripps Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in San Diego, California. During residency, he learned many different techniques and procedures as he rotated through six different hospitals and multiple surgery centers in San Diego and San Francisco. Through his various rotations, he became an expert in elective and traumatic foot, ankle, and lower leg surgery. After residency, he completed a one-year fellowship with the American Foundation for Lower Extremity Surgery and Research in Southern New Mexico where he received additional training in performing total ankle implants and other complex reconstructive surgeries. He has a passion for complex wound care and has been involved with the Gerald Champion Advanced Wound Center since its inception. Dr. Spencer is board certified in foot and leg surgery. He enjoys teaching lectures, cadaver workshops, and surgical techniques to fellows, residents, and students. He received many awards for his contributions throughout his career. The interest of Dr. Spencer’s research continues as he has presented and published many studies on the feet, heels, and treatment of the lower leg at various National Podiatric Symposia.
Dr. Spencer joined the New Mexico Bone and Joint Institute in 2012. He enjoys Alamogordo and the surrounding area and spends most of his free time with his wife and four children outside.
