VEGAS VALLEY CASINOLAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The company that operates slots at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport has announced that the gaming machines have generated more than $1 billion in revenue to date.
According to a news release, Michael Gaughan’s Airport Slots Concessions, Inc. has operated slot machines at the Las Vegas Airport for 36 years. The company operates 1,430 slot machines throughout the airport’s terminals and employs 245 employees.
The release said the company “celebrated a milestone” in 2022 as it hit one billion dollars in revenue over the lifetime of its airport contract.
According to the release, the machines have generated approximately $39.8 million in gross revenue annually in recent years, which equates to an average of $34.4 million in revenue for the airport directly.

“Non-aviation revenue is beneficial because it helps reduce our costs for air carriers. As a discretionary travel market, we are very diligent in keeping our costs for airlines stable and as low as we can,” said Scott Kitchline, assistant director of business commercial/development for Harry Reid International Airport. “Financial considerations aside, Las Vegas is known for casinos. Having slots at the airport is a convenience that travelers largely enjoy and expect. Watching and listening to the slots as they come up sets the stage for the Only Vegas experience, and on the way out, many people also enjoy the opportunity to hit one last jackpot.

What Are The Best Slots To Play In Las Vegas
It’s true that slots earned more statewide in 2022 than in 2021, $10 billion versus $9.2 billion, respectively. But the main reason for the higher yield is that more money was put into the machines last year rather than tinkering with their payout percentages.
Pay percentages were indeed “strict”, but only by a very small amount. For example, quarter slot machines retained 8.06% of all money put into them in 2022, compared to 8.04% a year earlier. This difference is so small that it can be explained by an irrelevant mathematical variation that is certainly imperceptible to the gambler.
Slot machines are typically programmed to pay a “theoretical payout percentage” or RTP (return to player). This varies between jurisdictions. For example, in Nevada the minimum payment is 75% by law. In New Jersey, it is 83%. The slot machine manufacturer sets the RTP according to local regulations.
Have finely balanced formulas that decide how much profit their slots should yield over time, while still providing enough returns to keep players interested. They order machines from the manufacturer accordingly with predetermined payment.
Las Vegas Strip Adds Formerly Forbidden Fun For Tourists
The gaming control board must authorize the random number generator and game codes for each machine. Machines cannot be changed.
Perhaps this is a way for gamblers to rationalize cold streaks, as the human brain is adept at finding patterns in randomness. Remember, a machine programmed to give a player a 92% return will not necessarily do so in the short term. After hundreds of thousands of spins it will reach its theoretical percentage payout. Meanwhile, there are many ups and downs.
RTP is built into the dynamics of the game, but each spin is random, the outcome is determined by the random number generator when you press the button. Similarly, betting on a coin toss series gives you a 100% RTP, as it is a 50/50 proposition. But you can still lose after 10 flips. You can also argue that you were cheated even though the toss was fair.
And, of course, RTP is unequally redistributed to players. Most of it is returned to a lucky few in the form of big jackpot wins. But isn’t that the point of the slot in the first place? Casinos throughout Nevada are required to report revenue figures to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, including what percentage of the bets they place as profit on slot games.
Myth Busting Unlv Study Reveals That Gamblers Can’t Detect Slot Machine Payout Percentages
It’s a silly annual tradition of mine to dig into last year’s real-world data to help you find the cheapest slots in Las Vegas.
Unfortunately, the data we have is not detailed enough to tell us how loose or tight the slots were at different casinos. Rather, the reporting will highlight groups of casinos based on where they are located (i.e. The Strip, Downtown, Boulder, etc.). I will be sure to point out which casinos are located in areas with weak slots.
In terms of housekeeping, the casino slots “win percentage” is defined as the percentage of the total amount wagered by the player that the casino keeps as profit. For example, a 10% casino win percentage means that the casino, on average, bets 10 cents of every dollar on slot machines.
Example: A player puts $20 into a slot machine and accumulates his money by playing a total of $200 in spins over a period of time before losing everything. The total amount wagered by the player was $200 and the casino won, or retained, $20, resulting in a 10% casino win percentage.
Secrets To Winning At Las Vegas Casinos
Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s see where you can find more suitable slots for payouts around Las Vegas.
The graph below details casino slot win percentages by region, combining all slot denominations together. You can immediately guess that casinos in tourist centers keep a large percentage of slot games as profit.
As mentioned above, the best places around Las Vegas to play slots are the Boulder area (6.28% casino win percentage) and North Las Vegas (7.46% win percentage).
As is the case year after year, Reno boasts a player-friendly 5.49% casino win percentage.
Are Casinos Making The Right Bet When It Comes To Slots?
Keep in mind that video poker is also included in the slots statistics above. Casinos away from the Strip have lower win percentages, partially, but not completely, due to the better video poker pay tables offered.
