The Desert Resort Las Vegas – In summary: My one night stay was probably atypical for this property. I had one more night in Las Vegas, and this was the most convenient option. But the property impressed me enough that I would definitely consider it for a family stay. The large suite offered a full kitchen, living room and open-air balcony with a view of the pool and MSG arena under construction. The property’s amenities are sufficient for a comfortable and convenient family stay in Las Vegas. Plus, it’s off the charts cute and quiet.
When I realized I needed to book two nights in Las Vegas, I quickly turned to IHG certifications. I’ve been sitting around with way too many free hotel night certificates this year, and it’s time to put some to use. Even if I get “less” value, I can pay more than the annual fees.

Backup plan: Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Desert Resort. Did I really care what kind of hotel I stay at on this trip? Not really. It would be mainly for sleeping. And I don’t mind checking long term stays. Also, the HICV at the Desert Club Resort was running over $200 per night. Not bad in terms of value. I booked two nights.
But… Then my friend and Vegas local, Shawn Coomer of Miles to Memories, convinced me to try the Palazzo. Splitting the nights on a solo trip is my modus operandi anyway, so I rebooked the first night.
I’ll keep the rest of the review short. The arrival took longer than I expected, as there was only one person working at the front desk. I waited probably 15 minutes. The lobby of the hotel is quite large, and there were quite a few people that day and the next morning. It looked like half the hotel guests were from Iowa State for Saturday’s game against UNLV. The hotel also operates an area shuttle with limited departure times. I didn’t use it as everything was within walking distance, except for the trip to the airport, for which I used Uber. You are one block from the strip on Koval Lane.
The hotel offers multiple swimming pools, a large fitness center, barbecue stations and an array of children’s activities. I should walk more. He simply didn’t have time. Hang out by the main pool briefly while the Vegas weather was nice. The clubhouse also has a restaurant, the Gold Mine Bar and Grill

A free night certificate can get you a studio room or villa at Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Desert Club Resort. I opted for the one bedroom villa. These have a full kitchen, dining room, living room, fireplace (because you need that in Las Vegas) and a music station. The kitchen is really great for a long stay unit. It offers a full size refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven, double sink and even a dishwasher. All the dishes you need for four people are included.
Big wardrobe though. Convenient bedside currents are a newer addition. The room in general is not that modern.
You can enjoy the warm desert air from the small balcony, in addition to the view of the MSG Sphere under construction. I also liked the location of this particular villa as you have a direct view of the pool if you want to watch your kids while you’re out of the sun.

The downside is that the villa only has one bathroom. The bathtub is large, however, and the toilet is in a separate room that can be accessed from both the bathroom and the living room.
One last important note: there are no elevators in the buildings! You will need to climb several flights of stairs to get to your unit. The lady in front of me wanted a ground floor unit, and these were sold out. They seem to be the most popular!
It was a very quick trip and a short review, but I would be happy to stay at Holiday Inn Club Vacations at Desert Club Resort in the future. The suites are spacious and great for long term stays. You stay a block away from the trip, which is nice. It’s also nice and quiet compared to Las Vegas Boulevard. Finally, while you’re sure to be able to use your certificates here, the price seems to be capped at 40,000 IHG points per night, which is a nice deal. And the resort fee is only $15, compared to $45 for the Venetian towers.
