The costs have not yet been defined, but Secretary Honald Morales explained that it could be around 500 Mexican pesos, or about $28.

“You don’t need to sign anything, it’s a transport like a cruise ship, and nothing is needed, just your travel documents. And in the future, the ferry will also carry cars,” he said.

Tourism Secretary Miguel Aguinaga said, “This ferry comes to give visitors or people who want to do business between Ensenada and San Diego another option to be more active, we know of other destinations that have done well with this concept. It has been successful and we hope it will be the same.”

There were always police everywhere (as in every street) and seeing this in Mexico, I feel like a heavy police presence means something (bad) is going on. But this is not the case in Ensenada.

Cars are pedestrian-friendly, making it the best destination for families traveling with kids. You will also see a lot of kids (foreign and Mexican) towards the end!

As always, when writing “safety” articles, I don’t just share my personal experiences. I also share facts I see on the internet, especially on US state government websites.

Ensenada does not have the notoriously unsafe label compared to Tijuana (TJ). In TJ, I always have to ask everyone if it’s safe to walk down that particular street, but in Ensenada, I never have to.

Baja California Rebrands And Repositions Its Tourism Strategy

It helps that I live in an upper-class neighborhood (where most exclusive Mexicans live) and have learned that in Mexico, safety comes with a price tag (and a great address).

I also appreciate not getting a lot of attention from the locals because my looks and Spanish speaking skills make them think I’m Mexican. For me, this is a gift!

Look, I’ve lived in Mexico since 2018 and I’m allergic to police encounters. As a foreign expat in Mexico, I will do my best to comply with the regulations
