What Happens If You Meditate – 3 reasons why you should try meditation… …even if it’s just to start your day calm and relaxed!
I have to admit, when I was introduced to meditation 5 years ago, I rolled my eyes. I was sure it was not for me. First of all, the thought of sitting still for 10 minutes was very scary. I know 10 minutes doesn’t sound like much, but do you know what you can do in 10 minutes?
What Happens If You Meditate
Meditation was one of the wellness practices in TheWhole Life Challenge, you can read all about the challenge in my previous blog post. Either way, meditation would help you lose weight, clear your mind and sleep better. Just some of the benefits.
Meditation Hand Positions (a Short Beginner’s Guide)
Because I try to keep an open mind, I did. Just 10 minutes a day, I could do it!
My first step was to figure out what you do when you meditate. I was convinced that I had to sit in the lotus position (trust me, I had to look up the name), put my thumbs on my middle finger, palms up, and then chant “Ommmmmmmm, ommmmn”.
After some research, it seems you can even meditate while sitting on a chair, standing, lying down, or even walking. So far, ok…. sitting on a cushion in the quarter lotus pose seemed like the perfect way to start.
Then… I just sat there on the pillow and tried not to open my eyes every minute to see how much time was left. Try NOT to think!
Top 5 Meditation Hand Positions To Improve Your Practice
Fair? It was a very difficult concept to grasp. In a society where there is always a need to do and achieve, I definitely stepped outside my comfort zone.
Doing this meditation practice alone was not really good. Because I just didn’t know how to do it. Just sitting still and trying not to think about anything made me more and more nervous. It certainly could not be the goal of all practice.
Some of the Whole Life Challenge team suggested using an app to guide me while I perfected it. I downloaded the Headspace app and tried the free 10 day sessions.
The instructions made sense and slowly but surely I got the hang of it and began to enjoy the way it made me feel. Calm(er) and more in control of my thoughts. Because I discovered that meditation isn’t about thinking, it’s about focusing on your breathing and learning to direct your thoughts. Suddenly it didn’t seem so scary or boring anymore. In fact, it challenged me to go further.
How To Meditate When You Think You Can’t Meditate
The benefits of meditation are well documented, it could not be denied. One that stood out to me the most was that it actually increases your energy and helps you become more productive! Yass, did I need that?
I believe it took me another year or so before I was able to fully integrate it into my lifestyle and make it a daily practice, but I can really see and feel the benefits it’s giving me and I’m sure of the impact. in the long run.
Look, I’m not lying, it’s not easy, but it’s worth it! Once you find your ideal type, it’s only a matter of time before controlling your thoughts becomes easier and faster.
As you can tell, meditation has become a daily practice for me. I’m still trying to find what type of meditation I like best, but I’m getting there.
Reasons You Should Meditate Every Day
I just don’t know why it took me so long to grasp this and let go of the idea that meditating is boring and pointless.
Here are my top three reasons why I would encourage you to give it a try, especially if you have a really busy schedule!
Guilty, I often overreacted (and sometimes still do) to certain situations. Thanks to meditation, I manage to control my emotions much better. I have become calmer, more tolerant and more attentive. As soon as I feel that I am getting stressed, I will try to find my inner peace with breathing techniques, deep down I know that it is hiding somewhere. I also learned to pause and listen instead of reacting immediately.

Instead of dwelling on the past and worrying about the future (this doesn’t always work, but I’m getting there). I find that when my mind is calmer, it makes it easier to focus on my work and increases my productivity because I can focus longer! Not only am I more productive, but it’s easier to overcome obstacles that come my way. I realize it’s not the end of the world and I don’t dramatize it anymore.
Can’t Seem To Meditate? 7 Joyful Activities For You To Try Instead |
I used to wake up thinking about my to-do list and immediately feel overwhelmed. There was no way I could get everything done and the stress level immediately went up before my day had even started. This feeling is a thing of the past! Since I incorporated meditation into my morning routine and daily practice, I now start my day calm and relaxed. It feels so nicer and has so many benefits. I actually do things in a much more efficient way.
I’m sure there are other benefits to me meditating every day. But I can’t say it’s just because of daily practice. Anyway, it all helps me live such a balanced life!
Want to try it yourself? Then I would recommend starting with a guided meditation and using an app like Headspace or Calm. I’m sure there are others, but at least it’s a start. Try to find what type of meditation is right for you. I like to meditate first thing in the morning, but others find it more helpful to meditate in the evening.
And more importantly, please don’t quit after just two tries. It takes some time to get the hang of it and then you can enjoy the benefits. But trust me, it’s worth it! Mike is the motivation behind Carpe Diem. He aims to inspire people who are looking for a little extra boost in their lives.
Meditation: Definition, Benefits, And How To Do It
I have been seriously meditating for a little over a year now and I can truly say that it has changed my life for the better. No, I haven’t achieved enlightenment or experienced some desirable cathartic state, but I have learned to be more mindful through meditation.
I have learned to better understand my inner self and observe how it aligns with my outer self. I have learned (in most situations) to be more passive and thoughtful rather than aggressive and irrational.
Frankly, meditation has taught me a lot, and I believe it can teach others a lot as well. It’s more than sitting in an awkward position and chanting.
Meditation is about becoming one with your mind and learning something about yourself that you may not have known before practicing meditation. Your practice can be as long or as short as you like, but try to set aside time for meditation every day.
Techniques To Help You Meditate
You’ll be amazed at the results, and we’ve rounded up 10 reasons why meditation should be on your list of new hobbies.
Mindfulness means you are more aware of your thoughts and actions in general. Unless you are in a heightened state of consciousness, you cannot rationally observe your thoughts.
Your thoughts may be taking you on a wild ride all day long, dragging you along. It’s time to get off that ride and determine beyond doubt which thoughts are true and which thoughts are just bullshit.
Meditation offers time to reflect on your thoughts and focus primarily on your breathing or some other aspect of your being. It gives you the awareness to focus your mind on the present moment and not on the future past.
Meditation Positions To Make Part Of Your Practice
You experience stress just like everyone else. Some stress is inevitable and therefore less toxic. Too much stress can be unhealthy and harmful if you don’t manage it.
Meditation is a quiet time for yourself every day. Use deep inhalations and exhalations to focus your attention on being in the moment.
Stress will not disappear automatically, but you will notice a change in the amount of accumulated stress. Simply closing your eyes and breathing steadily has a huge effect, especially if you recognize that stressful situations arise.
You really don’t want to give all your energy to emotions, do you? I think it’s safe to say that, like most people, you want more control over your emotions.
