The most popular tour option is the Logger steam train. This one-hour tour takes you through the forest and offers two types of seating.
The first type uses a covered historic car with seats facing forward, rear and sideways. These are open air and located on the side so you can enjoy the view and relax as there are no windows.
The second type of car is made from huge tree trunks. These seats have no coverings, so you can easily look out and see directly into the tree canopy.
You can also find some other tour options. These include the Jenny Railcar Tour, a shorter, faster journey in a small railcar. They also offer some evening tours with dinner, which may include a show, depending on your selections.
San Francisco To Yosemite Road Trip: Best Route And Stops
The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad first operated trains in 1967. Rudy Stauffer and his family, who owned the nearby Swiss Melody Inn, purchased their original locomotive in 1965.
They then worked on relaying 2 miles of track originally used by the Madera Sugar Pine Lumber Company for their new train attraction.
At the same time, they built the engine room, ticket office and museum. The following year they sold the Swiss Melody Inn (currently known as the Narrow Guage Inn) to focus on their entertainment railroad business.
The sons took over the business in 1981 and over 40 years later it is still family run today!
